Coaching is for you

Growth
Life is an ongoing process of growth and evolution, an endless iterative cycle of being and becoming. Coaching helps us grow intentionally and evolve on purpose and in purpose. Coaching helps cultivate the presence, awareness, clarity, focus, and insight, necessary to living a more integrated and empowered purposeful life. Coaching helps us shed old habits and develop new ways of being that lead to more meaning and greater alignment with our core values.
-
Transition
Life is filled with transitions. These liminal moments of becoming, where one is often moving from the known to the unknown, can be scary and destabilizing. Coaching helps provide a framework for understanding and embracing change, and the presence to engage in the process with curiosity, compassion, and confidence. Coaching provides the tools, resources, and space for navigating these transformations.

Challenge
Life presents us with challenges. It is up to us how we respond. Sometimes we are prepared and know how to move forward. Other times we’re stuck and don’t know why. Coaching helps us unpack the mental models we use to make decisions when confronted with challenges, thus making the unconscious conscious, allowing us to decide on our desirable outcomes. Coaching then helps fine-tune our mental models so they produce the results we want.

Educators
The job of an educator is incredibly complex and demanding. The unprecedented isolation, separation, and disruption of the past 18 months has impacted educators in particularly intense ways. The ongoing uncertainty and the weight of these additional challenges has taken a physical and emotional toll and is causing many to question their purpose, values, and future.
If you are looking to reconnect to what you brought you to education in the first place…
If you are no longer able to find meaning in your work as you once did, and are wondering what you can do about it…
If you’re in it for the long haul but desperately need strategies to navigate the stress, anxiety, and exhaustion…
If you have decided to move on to something new, but don’t know what that is, or how you get there…
Coaching is for you.

Leaders
Leaders in the private and non-profit sectors are now called on to lead and manage through significantly increasing complexity. The stakes are higher, the demands are greater, the resources are fewer, the work is more challenging, and the experience is more lonely. Leading during these uncertain times requires skills and mind-sets.
If you are a leader seeking greater personal insight, self-awareness, self-mastery, and balance…
If you are a leader looking to reconnect to your values, define internal goals, and discover personal solutions that produce results…
If you are a leader seeking greater clarity, confidence, presence…
If you are a leader interested in leading with purpose, and engaging and empowering others through your vision…
Coaching is for you.

Professionals
For many, views about work are changing. The “great resignation” is evidence that many people are reevaluating their relationship with their work. This process, although it can be de-stabilizing and stressful, is also a ripe opportunity for discernment and holistic alignment.
If you are a professional seeking more meaningful work closely connected to your values and sense of purpose…
If you are a professional looking to make a transition but are terrified of change…
If you are a professional that feels stuck in your career and looking for clarity on the next steps to take…
If you are a professional seeking to maximize and fully reflect and express your talents to have a greater impact…
If you are a professional looking for ways to intentionally grow and evolve, and thrive in your work…
Coaching is for you.
Word on the streets
“Jabali's coaching is incredibly effective and has left an immense impact on me. His ability to listen, respond, and provide space to help me discover more about my path in life is a true gift. Working with Jabali has been an incredible experience, and I will continue to use the lessons that he taught me as I keep growing.”
— elly blum
“Jabali supported me through a period when I was deeply indecisive about a professional transition. From my very first coaching session, Jabali created an atmosphere of comfort and care through his deep listening and warm personality. What has stood out to me the most were his thoughtful and incisive questions, which sparked new insights and helped me gain clarity on what really mattered to me. I've left his coaching sessions feeling more connected to who I am and how I can use my identity and values to guide my next steps.”
— Shilpa Bhongir
“Jabali's coaching was truly instrumental for me as I navigated a time period of both professional and personal transition. Through active listening and probing questions, he was consistently able to synthesize what he was hearing, identify themes and trends, and surface the values and principles that would guide my decision making going forward. He was also incredibly effective at pushing my thinking while also creating a safe space for open dialog and reflection.”

Who AM I?
I am a personal, professional, and leadership coach. I am an educator. I am a father. I am a philosopher. I am an activist.
Originally from San Francisco, my circuitous path to coaching can be traced back to the work I’ve done and continue to do as an educator. I began my professional career as a middle school science teacher at Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, one of the highest performing urban charter schools in the state of Massachusetts. I then moved to Brooklyn, New York to found and run Excellence Boys Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant, the first single-sex public charter school in the country serving predominantly Black males, a school which went on to become one of the highest performing public schools in NYC. I then moved on to help found Zearn, a non-profit digital learning organization currently serving over 4,000,000 students across the country, where I served as an Instructional Designer and on-camera teacher. After that I worked as the Senior Director of Inspire at Relay Graduate School of Education, an independent, nonprofit graduate school of education that focuses on training and supporting great teachers and leaders working in our nation’s high-needs public schools. I currently help run nXu, a non-profit organization whose mission is to catalyze and equip youth and adults to explore, articulate, and pursue their purpose.
Through these rewarding professional experiences, and throughout my personal life, I have been committed to supporting individuals in their efforts to thrive and fully flourish as human beings. My approach to coaching, an extension of my personal mission, focuses on helping develop expanded self-awareness and an increased capacity to live, work, and lead in greater presence and greater alignment to one’s sense of purpose.
When I’m not coaching or helping people find their purpose, I’m engaged with a number of amazing organizations. I currently sit on the Advisory Board for the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy located in South Africa, the Leadership Council of the Robin Hood Foundation based in New York City, the National Board of Summer Search, a leadership development program focused on low income youth, the Board of Uncommon Schools in New York City, the Board of The German School of Brooklyn, and the National Board of Breakthrough Collaborative an educational program for traditionally underrepresented students on their path to college and the largest pre-professional teacher training program in the country.
I’m a graduate of Oberlin College where I received a dual degree in Biology and Philosophy, and I received my Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
I received my coaching training through Presence Based Coaching.
